Pack It Right & Fly Away

Sooooooooo..... I skipped out on the last 2 months. I apologize! A lot has been on my mind. I ended up moving to Tel Aviv, Israel. I arrived just two days ago and I am staying through the end of May, and what worries me is that no one ever talks about how to pack a bra properly, let alone pack enough bras comfortably without them getting smashed for your entire trip. Challenge accepted! :)

How to Pack Bras:
Here's the deal--- if you like shaped bras, like I do, NEVER fold the bra's cups inside out!!! That's a big no-no! It breaks down the shape of the cup and the sturdiness of it. The inside fabric is smaller than the outside fabric, so flipping it will stretch out the wrong side. These bras cost a lot of money, don't ruin them with bad packing!!!
What I do is take all of the bras that I am taking, and lay each one on top of the other-- the most shaped on top of the pile and the least shaped at the bottom, such as sports bras, then semi-fold in half (where the material is that connects the two underwires in the center). Then the bras are in a giant pile, depth-wise, the width of the pile will be a little more than one cup. I leave enough room in the suitcase for this pile, with nothing going on top of it or below it. You can put rolled up socks inside of the cups to keep the shape. I tend to not worry about that because one shaped bra on top of another keeps the shape pretty well. I choose a corner of the suitcase that is near the top--- the side with the handle. This keeps smashing to a minimum.

TSA Rules:
If you are flying, you'll want to familiarize yourself with TSA's policies and procedures. According to the TSA website, underwire bras can set off the metal detector. Ummm, I'm not sure whose bra is doing this, but I travel pretty frequently and I only wear underwires. My bra has never set off the metal detector. They also have a note about gel-filled bras since issuing all of those limitations on gel, lotions, and liquids. Gel-filled bras are permitted through security screening and aboard aircraft.

Which bras to take?:
Take the essentials! You will definitely want the comfortable, everyday bras. In my case, I'm going for 6 months, so I need pretty much everything. I took everyday bras, plunge bras, & sports bras. I contemplated taking a strapless bra, but I just could not forsee myself wearing a dress with no straps during these months, especially because I took only dresses with straps. If I need one, hopefully, I'll have enough time to have my mother send it to me. Think about your audience--- if there's going to be an audience member, or even a few-- take the lacy, fun bras. Hey! Take them just for you! These are just suggestions. Really no one can tell you what to take, except for you. It all depends what you're going to wear on top of the bra, what you will be doing, etc. Make sure to plan ahead and brainstorm!

Good luck on your journey!!! The fun is just beginning!!! ;)
